Technically Sound Jeans?

Read about WTFjeans and iTunes 11.

Hello, and welcome to the weekly column by Techno Trent, bringing tech news relevant to you!

Apple Launches iTunes 11

Remember iTunes? Yes, that laggy piece of software you were forced to use in order to sync your iDevices? Several months ago, I switched over to Spotify due to the poor user experience of iTunes. And I am a pretty big Apple fan, owning both a MacBook Pro and an iPhone 4s — you know an Apple a day keeps the doctor away.

When I heard they were going to redux iTunes with iTunes 11, I was elated! Maybe things would be different this time. Originally promised for an October launch, it was pushed back.

But, just like Christmas is coming, this was coming too. Apple simply updated their deadline to November. I think the software is superb. iTunes 11 has a beautiful interface; it works quickly instead of lagged. On both my Mac and the Windows-based computers in my house, it is quicker to launch and in navigation, feels snappier. This overall contributes to a better user experience.

A quick rundown of the new features:

  • New MiniPlayer interface
  • Greater integration with iTunes store
  • “Up next” lets you queue music on the fly
  • Scan iTunes cards via webcam
  • Your movies, TV shows, podcasts, audiobooks, etc. are synced across all of your devices using iCloud
  • Improved syncing
  • Speed upgrades in all aspects of the software

This is a free update to iTunes, available by going to the Mac App Store on the Mac, or by checking for updates under the help tab on Windows. However, Apple did take away the Cover Flow feature. I personally prefer the new interface with the color scheme based on the album art color. It makes finding my music much quicker and efficient.

Now, can listen to my new AC/DC music in my new iTunes interface!

WTFjeans Feature Special Smartphone Pocket

WTFjeans has produced a pair of jeans designed for the geek and nerd in each of us. How so? These new pants, WTFjeans, have a special microfiber pocket for keeping that shiny new iPhone 5, quite simply, shiny. These custom jeans also come with a “secret” pocket for storing a USB stick. However, this product doesn’t come cheap, with each pair priced at $160. These are limited edition, with only 2048 jeans being made (reference to number of MB in 2GB).

Personally, I think the idea is cool, but those better be some pretty nice jeans for $160. You can pick up a Kindle Fire (with ads) for that amount of money! You can purchase WTFjeans at wtfjeans.com.
