BETTER CHOICE 2011 Planning & Zoning candidates John Edwards and Richard Ross: "We will bring 'constructive planning' and 'reasonable zoning' to Killingworth"

Better Choice 2011 candidates John Edwards and Richard Ross explain the vision they will bring to the office of Planning and Zoning

Our names are John Edwards and Richard Ross, and we are candidates for the Board of Planning and Zoning for the town of Killingworth. Although we are newcomers to public service, we are eagerly stepping forward to answer the call to serve the town and bring new thinking and fresh ideas to the board of planning and zoning.

We, as candidates for the Board of Planning and Zoning, both strongly believe our town’s planning and zoning regulations must be fair, equitable, and not overly obstructive. Killingworth needs constructive planning to help our small businesses complement our standard of living, hire our residents, and nourish that special talent known as “entrepreneurial spirit” that makes a community grow. At the same time, Killingworth needs reasonable zoning to act as a partner with our small businesses to make sure we assist them wherever possible, and are not tempted to over-regulate or become anti-business through neglect, in our Plan of Development.

In cooperation with our First Selectman candidate’s objectives that will help us create this constructive planning and reasonable zoning, we fully support Steve Hollander’s goal to create an ombudsman committee that reports to the Board of Selectmen to find ways to support, rather than interfere with, opportunities for local businesses to thrive and grow.

Many fine people have served on the Planning and Zoning commission over the years, and they have done good things for the town, but we now ask for the people of Killingworth to empower us with their trust. What we may lack in public exposure, we make up for in zeal and the desire to make our town a better place, and we will do everything but the impossible to represent your interests and achieve our common goals and ideals.

Your vote at the Republican primary, Tuesday, September 13th from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm at the Killingworth Elementary School is needed, because the careful planning and zoning we bring to pass today, will plant the seed that will help create the world we want our children to live in tomorrow.
