Senior night was extra special for Coginchaug guard Erikson Wasyl and his teammates.

The Blue Devils' leading scorer needed just 10 points against Valley Regional on Monday night to reach 1,000 points for his career.

The milestone came with 3:25 left to go in the second quarter, as Wasyl drove from the top of the key for a layup to put the Blue Devils up 29-15.

With the crowd in a frenzy, Wasyl posed for a few pictures with head coach Todd Salva and gave a hug to his parents before taking the court again.

Despite a packed gym and the obvious homecourt advantage, the Warriors wouldn't go down without a fight, keeping the score within a few baskets for much of the game.

Wasyl hit two clutch three-pointers, one coming shortly before halftime to give Coginchaug a 32-25 lead going into the locker room.

The second deep ball early in the fourth quarter gave the Blue Devils the momentum they needed to finish off Valley 69-58.

Wasyl finished with 25 points and became only the eighth player to wear a Blue Devils uniform to score 1000 points in a career.

Earlier this season, senior guard Audrey Biesak scored her 1000th career point in front of the home crowd to join her brother Matt "Buckey" Biesak on the illustrious list.

Ethan Donecker finished with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and three blocks for Coginchaug, while Brock Hoyt added a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Sean Cunningham lead the Warriors with 16 points.

Coginchaug (16-3) finishes the regular season at Old Saybrook on Wednesday.
