Storm Forces Schools to Close on Thursday

School officials made the decision Thursday morning to cancel classes at all District 13 schools in Durham and Middlefield.

There will be no school on Thursday for students in Durham and Middlefield.

On Thursday morning, Superintendent Susan Viccaro announced that District 13 will be closed for the day due to inclement weather.

Wednesday's nor'easter, which was expected to dump up as much as 10 inches of snow in some areas of the state, is blamed for two deaths in Connecticut.

The storm caused a handful of brief power outages in Durham Wednesday night, according to Connecticut Light and Power, as well as afternoon cancellations.

Nearly two dozen flights were canceled at Bradley Airport due to the storm.

Schools in nearby Madison and Haddam-Killingworth have decided to delay the start of classes Thursday rather than close.

I would suggest to parents to donate a book to the classroom or school library in their child's nameRead More to celebrate the child's birthday, or other significant event, instead of sending in cupcakes or other sweets.
