I can't make the meeting so I'll leave my comments here. As a resident I believe the value of my home is tied to the quality of life our community including education. That said, all agencies are strapped and residents are looking for tax relief. I suggest the following: with vouchers for low income residents, charge for participation in advance placement classes. There is no reason that tax payers in general should be funding classes which will potentially result in lower college costs to our brightest students.
Thank you for reading my comment.

The Towns of Durham and Middlefield are not getting acceptable value for their citizens' educational tax dollar. Last July, we learned that, once again, almost half of the students do not meet State standards in English, and that their scores in all of the remaining subjects tested are the worst for the last six years. Adding more of our tax monies each year to the Education budget has demonstrably not improved outcomes. Why should we, once again, agree to do the same thing and expect a different result ?

Dear Ab, Just because you say something it doesn't make it true. According to the state website, students in RSD 13 at proficient or higher, the level need for NCLB competency, 95.7 of 8th graders passed in 2012, 96.5% in 2011, and 94.9 percent passed in 2010 in the Math portion. These numbers are consistently about 9-10% higher than the state average. Good numbers. Reading was 95.1, 91.1 and 91.1, again about 9% higher than state average. Writing at 84, 93, and 89%, about 15% over the state average. Also Science was 10% above the state average. These numbers seem to indicate that we are getting our money's worth. I really wish people like you would take a moment and educate yourself before you simply sling mud at the school system...

Nonetheless, in spite of all the additional tax monies the citizens of Durham and Middlefield annually transfer to the Education Budget, results do not improve.

The traffic signal is a DOT project. I called today and spoke to the project manager who could notRead More give me an exact date of the start of construction and said he'd get back to me. That was a over four hours ago. The project, as indicated at several meetings, is scheduled for sometime this summer. The funding was put in last year and will carry over because the project is not yet ongoing.

Lisa, I am sorry to say this doesn't look like the kitty that has been around our house. Your MaddieRead More has more white on the chest. Do you have a picture of her from the front?
