In all it does, Middlesex Community College (MxCC) strives to be the college of its community. And its community is large. MxCC serves 18 towns in the scenic heart of the CT River Valley, including all of the towns within Middlesex County, as well as Meriden, Wallingford, and Rocky Hill.
The Foundation Board of Middlesex Community College has accepted the challenge to reach more students within this region by offering a new scholarship program to the 20 area High Schools.
The MxCC Foundation’s new scholarship program will award $1,000 scholarships to 10 graduating High School students who will be attending full-time at Middlesex Community College this summer or fall. Theses scholarships will be available to incoming students enrolled to take courses at either MxCC’s Middletown or Meriden campuses, or at a combination of both locations.
“Middlesex Community College has so much to offer our community” stated George Eames, MxCC Foundation Chair. “We feel that by initiating this scholarship program throughout our geographic area we will ensure that the student body at Middlesex has greater representation from all the communities in our region. By the numbers, these are the students who will live and work in our part of Connecticut after they graduate. All of us will therefore benefit by helping more of our own students earn college degrees.”
According to Dr. Mark Benigni, Superintendent of the Meriden Public School system, “Middlesex Community College really is the college of our community, and clearly wants to support students who have demonstrated active involvement within the community.”
Dr. Benigni is also a Corporator of the MxCC Foundation, and was instrumental in the design of this scholarship program. According to Dr. Benigni, each area high school can nominate up to two students to receive this generous award.
“One of the most important things we know about the Middlesex experience, based on recent surveys, is that our students know that their professors want them to succeed and are willing to help them every step of the way,” said Anna Wasescha, President of Middlesex Community College. “Many students and their families are realizing the value of completing the first two years of an undergraduate degree close to home. Our classes are small, our faculty regards teaching as their first calling, and everyone at our college takes student success seriously.”
