John Lyman Students Share the Love of Reading

Students donate more than 800 books to New Haven Reads.

Students from John Lyman School in Middlefield love to read and recently they were able to share that love with others.

Each child was asked to donate a gently used book to the New Haven Reads Program. New Haven Reads is a nonprofit organization that provides free tutoring and free books to children in the New Haven area. These children often do not have their own books. The program also has a book room for anyone in the community to come in and pick up free books.

The students' goal was to collect 300 books. Classroom Senators put out collection boxes and made announcements to encourage students to participate. Many staff members also brought in books for the collection.

Over the months of March and April, John Lyman students collected more than 800 books!
