BOE to Hold Special Meeting Wednesday to Talk About School Security

District 13 school officials will meet at John Lyman Elementary School at 6:30 p.m. and invite the public to learn about the measures the schools are taking in the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy.

The District 13 Board of Education will meet tomorrow night and is inviting parents or any members of the public who might have questions about school security to attend the meeting.

The special meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at John Lyman Elementary School.

Schools in Durham and Middlefield have taken extra precautionary measures of late to keep students and staff safe following last week's shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

Police have been stationed at schools in the morning and afternoon and grief counselors have been made available to any student or staff member who might need it.

School administrators have met internally to discuss safety plans at each school as well.
