Gov. Malloy Visit the Region Thursday to Promote Tourism

Malloy is expected to visit multiple towns in the Connecticut River area, including Middletown and Middlefield.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is scheduled to visit a number of local businesses and parks on Thursday as part of the state’s summer-long “Still Revolutionary” tourism campaign.

Malloy’s tour includes destination spots in Middletown, Middlefield, Portland, Haddam, East Haddam and Essex, according to a news release from his office.

Some of the places he plans on visiting include Empower, a sports and adventure center in Middletown, and Gillette Castle, a popular state park in East Haddam.

The governor launched the tourism campaign earlier this year as a way to promote some of the various attractions the state has to offer, and to boost revenues to local businesses.

According to the release, Connecticut’s hospitality and tourism industry employs more than 110,000 people, generates $1.15 billion in state and local tax revenue and is responsible for $11.5 billion in spending.
