Corona Files Paperwork to Run for Middlefield First Selectman

Life-long Middlefield resident Marianne Corona will run for the town's top seat this November.

The 78-year-old filed the necessary paperwork with the Secretary of the State's office earlier this week to be included in the race for First Selectman on the Nov. 5 ballot.

"Although I have a long history of being able to work and serve with both sides of the political fence, both Democrats and Republicans, I find that today most folks in Rockfall and Middlefield are truly independent thinkers," Corona said about her candidacy in a letter.

Corona will run as an unaffiliated, petition candidate. She received 27 signatures in support of her candidacy, or a dozen more than was necessary.

In the letter, she touts her 'tireless work as a volunteer' and her support of small business.

"This upcoming town election on November 5th is more about electing the right person to do what is right and just for all the people in our small town," she writes "rather than a candidate who is either a Republican or a Democrat!"

Corona will join incumbent Republican First Selectman Jon Brayshaw and Democrat Lucy Petrella on the ballot.

“We’re too small of a town to not be able to work together,” Corona told the Middletown Press. “This is one that I dearly love. My goal here is to help the citizens connect with their needs.”
