Firefighters Help Knock Down Large Middletown Condo Blaze

Crews from throughout Middletown helped extinguish the blaze at the Carriage Crossing condominiums in the Westfield section of town Monday, and Durham firefighters assisted.

Firefighters from throughout Middletown battled a two-alarm fire at the Carriage Crossing condominiums Monday that touched off just after 5:30 p.m.

It's unclear if there were any injuries, as the entire Westfield Fire Department station was still on scene at 7:50 p.m., staffed by Portland firefighters.

The blaze, at 145 Carriage Crossing Lane in the Westfield portion of the city, had Westfield, Cross Street and Middletown fire crews venting the attic and knocking down windows to quell the flames and heavy smoke.

Residents of the condos reported Connecticut Light and Power crews had cut off power to adjacent units as an electrical precaution as the fire marshal surveyed the scene. Scanner reports indicate the fire was put out near 6:30 p.m. and Berlin, Durham, Portland and Haddam firefighters provided mutual aid at Middletown's fire stations.

Red Cross workers are on scene to provide aid to the victims.
