Letter: Republican 2013 Candidates Tout Their Accomplishments in Middlefield

First Selectman Jon Brayshaw and Selectman Ed Bailey outline the successes in town over the course of their tenure in office in a letter to the editor to Durham-Middlefield Patch.

The following letter to the editor was submitted by the Brayshaw-Bailey 2013 Campaign.

Would you believe, Middlefield and Rockfall residents — it is election time again. As the season opens up, before the mailers and magnets show up on your front step, I wanted to personally acknowledge what an honor it has been being your First Selectman for the past eight years. It has been the high point of my life working along with Ed Bailey, Dave Lowry and all the town departments and committees.  Your faith in us keeps us inspired.

In spite of the challenges and what has been going on around us we have flourished. In a spirit of kindness and cooperation, we have worked with many incredible and dedicated people who live here and help out. The Town has run smoothly while we continue to deliver essential services…like police, fire, seniors, public works, library, transfer station…etc.

As your selectmen, Ed and I are proud of our accomplishments. They are many and diverse. The town’s operating budget was held to a minimal 2.8% per year since 2005.

Powder Ridge ski area is being revitalized, which will preserve hundreds of acres as a recreational facility. With the addition of 200+ new jobs, Powder Ridge Mountain Park and Resort will be a major boost to our local economy, and help establish Middlefield as a destination site within the state of CT.

The Brayshaw/Bailey administration
has given a voice to the unaffiliated voters in our community by not only appointing them to boards and commissions, but also including them on our candidate slate for elected office.

Ed Bailey and I look forward to meeting you in the coming weeks and listening to your ideas. We would be happy to present our financial summary and a complete list of accomplishments. Let us continue to work together in 2014 and beyond. The future of Middlefield looks bright indeed. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact us via email at brayshawbailey2013@gmail.com or on our Facebook page. I promise you as with our last eight years in office, you will be treated with courtesy and respect.

And finally, when all is said and done, our DUTY is simple and crystal clear.
