Original story

Connecticut Light and Power crews are working to restore power to nearly 500 customers in Durham and Middlefield.

As of 1 p.m. Thursday, 349 homes in Durham were without electricity as a result of damaging winds that knocked trees and limbs onto power lines early this morning.

The bulk of the outages are in the Haddam Quarter Road area, according to officials who are hopeful that power will be restored by Thursday evening when temperatures are expected to drop significantly.

In Middlefield, workers spent the morning clearning a downed tree down that fell across Route 147.

125 customers in the town still did not have power by 1 p.m.

Power has been restored to John Lyman Elementary School which was closed Thursday due to the outages. All other schools in the two towns were on a two hour delay.

Homeowners with prolonged power outages are urged to call CL&P at 1-800-286-2000. If you have further concerns you can call the town's non-emergency storm hotline at 860-343-6735 and leave a detailed message.
