Kokoruda Votes Yes, Candelora and Altobello Vote No on Gun Control Bill

House lawmakers passed far-reaching new gun control legislation early Thursday, just hours after it was approved by the state Senate. Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is scheduled to sign the bill into law Thursday.

Following the passage in the state Senate, House lawmakers early Thursday morning passed sweeping new gun control legislation.

The House of Representatives voted 105-44 in favor of the measure.

Durham Rep. Noreen Kokoruda voted for the bill, while Durham Rep. Vincent Candelora and Middlefield Rep. Buddy Altobello voted against it.

The bill will expand the state's assault weapons ban, ban new sales of high-capacity magazines and require owners who already have them to register them with the state, as well as require long gun and ammunition purchasers to carry an eligibility certificate.

The bill also addresses mental health and school security standards.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is scheduled to sign the bill into law at noon Thursday.
