Good Friday Ecumenical Way of the Cross Walk

Local parishes celebrate Good Friday together.

At noon on Good Friday, local parishes got together for an Ecumenical Cross Walk. Clergy and parishioners from Notre Dame (Durham), Church of the Epiphany (Durham), United Churches of Durham and St. Colman’s Church (Middlefield) began their cross walk at Notre Dame Parish in Durham with singing, scripture readings and a prayer.

The physical Way of the Cross Walk takes parishioners and clergy along a biblical journey marking the events of Jesus Christ’s trial, walk to Golgotha and crucifixion death upon the Cross. Participants made stops along the way as different scriptures were read telling the story of Christ’s death for our salvation.

At the steps of the United Churches of Durham a wooden cross was picked up and carried the remainder of the way. Once at the Church of the Epiphany, the cross was planted in the ground while people sang “Were you there when they crucified my Lord?”

After a prayer and moment of silence participants silently left the cross. All were invited to prayer at the participating churches and to Easter services.
