2. Town Meeting in Durham Tonight

According to its charter, the Town of Durham must hold The Annual Town Meeting on the first Monday in October, thus:

The eligible voters of the Town of Durham are hereby warned that THE ANNUAL TOWN MEETING will be held in the Julian B. Thayer Auditorium, Coginchaug Regional High School, on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. for the following purposes: 

1. To establish the date for the Annual Budget Meeting. 
2. To elect 1 member to 2017 term on the Compensation Review/Personnel Policy Commission. 
3. To elect 3 members to 2015 term on the Library Board of Directors. 
4. To elect 1 town representative to the 2015 term on the Board of Trustees of the Durham Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. 
5. To transfer $1,412 from #9370 Reserve for Clean Energy Task Fund to #2055-345 Clean Energy Task Fund Grant Program for promotional material for the Solarize Durham project as recommended by the Board of Finance at their meeting on September 18, 2012.

3. Middlefield Selectmen Meet Tonight The Board of Selectmen are scheduled to meet this evening at 7 p.m. The agenda includes discussion on a reverse 911 system and the town's paving schedule and road repair.

4. Powder Ridge on Facebook Middlefield's soon-to-be rebuilt ski area is on Facebook. In a post last week, Powder Ridge owner Sean Hayes invites residents to stop by the Black Bird Tavern for a casual meet and greet every Tuesday from 4-6 p.m.

5. Banned Books From our friends at the Durham Public Library: Banned Book Week starts today (Sunday). Stop by the library this week and check out a banned or challenged book and enjoy your freedom to read!
