Daily Five: Lakeside Deli to Drop Gas for Booze

1. What's the Weather? A slight chance of showers between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Increasing clouds, with a high near 56. Tonight: Friday Widespread frost after 3 a.m. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 29.

2. Household Hazardous Waste On Saturday, Oct. 13, from 8-1 p.m., Durham and Middlefield residents are invited to a Household Hazardous Waste collection being held at Middlesex Community College.

Suggested items for disposal include: acids, alkaline batteries, ammonia, antifreeze, brake fluids, cleaning solvents, disinfectants, fluorescent and CFL bulbs, gasoline and diesel, glues, herbicides, pesti-cides, lithium batteries, insecticides, lighter fluid, mercury, moth balls, oil-based paints, paint strippers and thinners, photographic chemicals, polishes, pool chemicals, rechargeable batteries, road flares, transmission fluid, turpentine and wood and metal polishes.

3. Out of Gas? The operator of Lakeside Deli in Middlefield announced plans Wednesday night to discontinue selling gas and begin selling alcohol. No action was required by the town's Planning and Zoning Commission and the operator could not provide a time frame for the change. Stay tuned to Patch for any developments.

4. Cupcakes for Breast Cancer The Coginchaug cheerleaders will be selling cupcakes at Saturday's home football game for $1. Proceeds from the sale of the cupcakes will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
