Daily Five: CVEF Trivia Bee is a Family Friendly Event

1. What's the Weather? Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 23.

2. Powder Ridge OK to Dredge Pond On Wednesday night, Middlefield's planning and zoning commission approved a special permit application from Powder Ridge Mountain Park to remove material from a pond on the property. The company wants to increase the pond's capacity from 4 million gallons to 8 million gallons of water ahead of next winter's anticipated opening. The pond was originally designed for snowmaking purposes.

3. CVEF Trivia Bee Tonight The Coginchaug Valley Education Foundation hosts the CVEF’s Fifth Annual Bee and first ever Trivia Bee tonight at 7 p.m. at Strong School. Trivia teams will compete for the top prize while raising money for CVEF's terrific grants program. The Trivia Bee is a family-friendly event and features team costumes, judges, and emcees. This year, two local educational celebrities—Mike Klimas and Donna Mattei–will preside. School spelling bee winners from John Lyman, Korn, Memorial and Strong schools will receive their awards at the Trivia Bee. See you there!

4. Get Hypnotized at Coginchaug Hypnotist Dan LaRosa will put on a show tonight at the high school to benefit Project Graduation. The event gets underway at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for $10.00.

5. Scholarships Available:

  • Durham/Middlefield Exchange Club Scholarship Application is available in Guidance for seniors. The deadline to apply is April 1st.
  • Coginchaug Little League Scholarship – The scholarship is open to current seniors and the deadline is April 6th. Applications are available in Guidance and on Naviance.
  • Durham Middlefield Falcons Youth Football and Cheerleading Scholarship – Applications are available in Guidance and the deadline is April 29th.
