2. Fried Dough Fundraiser to Benefit Boy Scouts Boy Scout Troop 270 is hosting a fried dough fundraiser at the United Churches of Durham on Saturday, Aug. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m.

The "dinner" includes fried dough, beverage and dessert. Proceeds from the event will benefit two Eagle Scout projects.

3. Route 66 DUI Crash Update The Middletown Press reports that a Meriden man was sentenced to 3 years in prison for a drunk driving crash along Route 66 in Middlefield that left another driver seriously injured in late 2010.

4. Calling all Knitters and Crocheters! Warm Up America knitted and crocheted squares need to be sewn together to make blankets for the needy. Please call 349-3625 if you are willing to help, either by sewing them by yourself or by participating in a group night. Let's try to get them ready in time for the fall/winter!
