6 p.m. Update: Durham and Middlefield Power Restoration

Town officials in Middlefield and Durham provide an update on power restoration on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

At a 6 p.m. briefing at the shelter at Coginchaug High School, town officials talked about the progress made Tuesday in the effort to restore power in Durham and Middlefield.

"Obviously, we're pushing CL&P very hard," said Francis Willett, Durham's emergency management director. "We know we're only on day three, but I don't want to be here on day seven."

Here are some of the highlights from the 6 p.m. briefing:

  • The shelter at Coginchaug High School will remain open thru the weekend.

Breakfast: 6:30-10am
Lunch: 12-2pm
Dinner: 5-8pm  (Volunteers are needed to assist kitchen staff)

  • Town officials will provide daily updates, at 12 p.m. and at 6 p.m.
  •  The transfer station will be open all week from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Residents are encouraged to bring their brush to the transfer station. It is not yet clear if or when the town's will provide curbside brush pick-up)
  • Non-potable water is available at fire stations in Durham and Middlefield. Drinking water is available at CRHS and the Middlefield Community Center.
  • For your own safety DO NOT touch downed wires, even if they appear to be dead. Stay a safe distance away from downed wires.
  • If you're using a generator, DO NOT keep it in a garage or on a porch. Generators should be kept at least 20 feet from your home. Make sure to use a carbon monoxide detector. If the alarm goes off call 911.
  • Use caution when using a chainsaw.
  • Check on elderly neighbors
  • Police have increased patrols during the outage.
