Look to the Future With a Custom Built Home in Durham

So much about initiating a home search is based on what is happening in the present: job relocation, new baby, empty-nest, etc.

When you are on the hunt for a new house to call home, it can be hard to think beyond the here and now. So much about initiating a home search is based on what is happening in the present: job relocation, new baby, empty-nest, etc. It is much more difficult to think about future needs, beyond the next 12 months or so. For instance, when we bought our home in Durham, we had no kids so it never crossed my mind to have a house with a mudroom. But a few years down the road and two kids later churning up a sea of shoes, backpacks, snow pants and sports gear, we finally added a mudroom. And while I’m really glad we added one, it would have been better had we thought more about our changing needs over time and bought a house that already had a mudroom.

Some people are excellent planners with the ability to know exactly what they want. They carry this planning into the building or remodeling of their homes too. From time to time, custom-built homes become available and they represent special opportunities. They are opportunities for new homeowners to get all the extras. Even better, someone else did the research and planning and financed the whole operation so you get to enjoy a custom home.

Take a look at this wonderful home on Tri Mountain Road. It offers many well-conceived, custom features. Let’s start with the laundry room. In my house, I have to walk through the bathroom to get to the laundry room. This house has its own separate laundry room near the bedroom on the first floor. The room itself is large with plenty of room for folding. Or close the door and watch your piles of laundry disappear out of view. There’s also a wonderful sunroom; the perfect place to enjoy a meal with great views of the backyard. You’ll feel like you’re outside, but without the bother of biting, stinging insects. I also place great value on the first floor master bedroom with full bath. When my husband Bob had his hip replacement surgery, we learned firsthand how nice it would have been if he didn’t have to navigate the stairs to our second floor bedroom during his recovery.
