Middlefield Voters Approve Sale of 19.67 Acres

By a 2-to-1 margin Tuesday, residents agreed to sell the property to Middlefield resident Lori Vogel-Brown.

Middlefield voters on Tuesday approved the sale of a 19.67 acre property on Powder Hill Road to local resident Lori Vogel-Brown.

Tuesday's referendum question passed 434 to 214.

Vogel will buy the parcel which formerly was part of the Powder Ridge ski area property for $300,000.

"I want to thank the voters of Middlefield and Rockfall for coming out in support of the sale," Vogel-Brown said after the vote.

"I am so excited about the future of Powder Ridge and the new life that is being breathed into it. Horses in the field will enhance the charm when coming to the Ridge. Its a great time for Middlefield," she said.

Restrictions on the property include a perpetual conservation easement which will prevent Vogel-Brown from building anything beyond a 5,000 square foot barn.

Money from the sale will be used to pay off the town's $2.3 million debt on Powder Ridge, officials said.
