Not All Athletes Wear Shoes

By Debi Whiteley

Registration for the Cougar Aquatic Team - an affiliate of the Haddam-Killingworth Recreation Department - Long Course season is now open. “Long Course” runs from April 11 through early August and refers to the size of the pool in which the team competes (50 meters, “longer” than the usual 50-yard pool). More information and registration forms are available at www.catswim.com.

Haddam is fortunate to have a USA Swim team right here in town. The team practices at the Haddam-Killingworth High School pool up to 6 days per week for 1 ½ - 2 hours, including 1 hour per week of strength training outside of the water ("dryland" workout). Children of all ages who are able to swim at least 100 yards without stopping are encouraged to join the CAT team for excellence in swim training and camaraderie.

The fee for Long Course is $700, plus an additional meet fee of $150, and a USA Registration fee of $55. CAT offers a limited number of need-based scholarships. For more details about the program or to register online, please visit www.catswim.com. Swimmers and their parents may also direct any questions they may have to head coach Mike Krajewski at 860-638-7327 or coach.mikek@yahoo.com.
