Locals Brace for Blizzard, Up to Two Feet of Snow Possible

Durham and Middlefield residents hustled Thursday to prepare for the possibility of more power outages resulting from a major snowstorm.

The snow has started falling in Durham and Middlefield and when it's all over residents could be digging out from as much as two feet of it.

  • Melissa Greenbacker Making sure all the calves have lots of bedding; getting the feed bunks ready; making sure the grain is delivered today; getting the generator ready to go; fueling up the tractors; talking with the milk truck driver in case he can't get here to pick up the milk on Saturday; making sure the barn is battened down.
  • Lisa Davenport Buyin the milk buying the cheese
Filling the tub As deep as My knees
Stacking the wood as high as I could
Gassing up the car although I won't go far
Planning a puzzle and maybe some snuggle
    But most of all
Looking forward to some family time.... The perfect way to end my silly rhyme
  • Fran Periú Ginsberg Going to the feed store to double up on grain and bedding. Also, getting diesel for the generator to run the well.
  • David A Davis looking at the bright side... burglaries will be down as most crime
  • Beatrice Reading Don't forget books & DVDs from the Durham Public Library! We've already had quite a few people in to browse our DVD collection.
  • Deb Golschneider Food, milk, dog food, bird seed and suet, gas for cars and generator, charge cell phones and kindle...check. Guess we're good to go, or should I say stay home, and wait to see what Mother Nature brings us.
  • Liz Donohue Called a new guy to plow, got gas and wine, picked up pizza.
  • Country Flower Farms Fueling up all trucks and tractors with plows. Have moved everything we can that may blow and cause damage inside. Making sure we have no openings on any of our roofs. Starting up heat in all greenhouses to minimize snow build-up on our roofs. Already starting to clear paths to get trucks in if we need more oil to keep up with melting snow off the roofs.
