Local Marathon Runner Raising Money for Research

Lyman's Apple Barrel worker will compete in race April 30

Bill Mercuri of Meriden will be participating in the Country Music Half Marathon in Nashville, TN on April 30 as a member of Team in Training.  He is affectionately known from his work in the deli at in Middlefield.

Team in Training is a comprehensive endurance training program for runners, walkers, cyclists and triathletes which benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Team in Training is the Society’s signature fundraising event, having raised over $800 million since 1986 to fund research leading to treatments and cures for blood cancers, as well as much needed patient services.

Mercuri has a fund raising goal of $5,000 and is reaching out to neighboring communities to support his efforts as a member of Team in Training.  If you or a loved one have been affected by Leukemia or Lymphoma, or if you would just like to help via a donation, corporate sponsorship or hold a special event, please contact Bill at (203) 237-4305 or 414-559-6851 or e-mail him at bill.mercuri@att.net

Mercuri is 70 percent of the way to his goal.  He feels like he just needs to get over one last hump, especially at a time when his own health issues have been something of a setback.  "Now I'm back on track, and really looking forward to running a good race," Bill said, mentioning that he has competed in races in New York, but never as far away as Nashville.  "The Schroon Lake race is interesting," he said, "because it's something that little community really stands behind."

To date, Bill has received many donations from supporters in the area.  He wishes to thank the many members of the surrounding communities for supporting this cause.
