World renowned Gospel sensation Soul Tempo, whose members grew up in New Haven and have gone on to star on the silver screen and play some of America's signature performance venues, will bring it's uplifting show to Durham to benefit the United Churches of Durham's fund to restore the historic beauty and exterior integrity of our church's unique steeple.

The concert will be held on Sunday, April 15 at 3 p.m. at Coginchaug Regional High School. The concert is open to the public and tickets can be purchased for $20.00 each, starting today (contact info below).

Soul Tempo come a long way from their Elm City roots in the late 80's!  Most
recently, they won the Group Division in the 2009 McDonald's Gospel Competition, against 80,000 contenders!

Director Penny Marshall spotted their talent many years ago. She cast them as a singing group in the 1996 movie The Preacher's Wife, starring Whitney Houston and Denzel Washington. This was a springboard to their career, which has included engagements to play the Apollo Theatre, Kennedy Center and Radio City Music Hall. They've traveled the country and the world, singing for Presidents and singing with some of the biggest names in the music industry and appearing on "live television, including The Regis and Kelly Show.

Soul Tempo's hit record Touch the Hem of His Garment was on the National Billboard charts for 14 consecutive weeks. They have recorded five CDs and a sixth is coming out this spring, just in time for a performance we, at the United Churches of Durham are proud to be hosting.

Tickets can be purchased by calling 860-349-3683 or online at www.ucdurham.org.
