Coginchaug Softball

Freshman Pitcher Gabby Diaz allowed only two hits and struck out 10 as the Coginchaug Lady Devils shut down the Wildcats of Old Lyme, 15-2, Monday afternoon in Durham. “I had a frustrating first inning, but thanks to the support and encouragement from my team and my coaches, I was able to settle down for the win”, Diaz commented. The Devils’ bats exploded in the 2nd , with singles by seniors Kayla Votto and Jackie Benson. Sophomore Courtney Votto, 3-4, added to the assault with another single, followed by a Katelyn Williams’ line drive homer to leftfield. Sophomore Naomi Rinaldo, 2-3, wrapped up the rally with a shot to center and the Devils ended the 2nd with a score of 12-2. The Lady Devils added another 3 runs to the tally in the 4th inning. Amanda Burke hit a single and knocked in two runs for the Wildcats. Coginchaug (4-4, 4-2) will host Morgan (8-0, 6-0) Wednesday at 3:45.
