Results from 1st Annual Lake Beseck Fishing Derby

Families fished Lake Beseck for a chance at winning prizes for the longest, heaviest and smallest fish.

Early risers came out on May 5th 2012 for the 1st Annual Lake Beseck Fishing Derby sponsored by Middlefield Parks and Recreation

16 people registered and a handful of people came out to spectate.

Several fish were weighed in for a shot at winning a prize for longest, heaviest and smallest fish.  Some participants came in with several, others came in empty handed.

Kyle and Jack Roberts of Middlefield were the first to weigh in with five Sunnies and one Bass.   They later weighed an additional two Bass and four Sunnies for a total of 12 fish!

Dave and Joe Franklin of Middlefield brought in the largest fish assortment consisting of a few Bass, several Pickerel and a Pike.  Dave won prizes for the longest and the heaviest fish with his 26” 3.24lb Pike.  Dave walked away with $100 cash and a $25 gift certificate to Lyman Orchards and a $25 gift certificate to First & Last Tavern.  His son Joe didn’t do too bad either, bringing in a couple of nice Bass.

James Helmedach of Middlefield, who most of us had our bets on, brought in a healthy assortment of Bass, Sunnies and a Perch.   Surprisingly he didn’t end up with the longest or heaviest but did come in with the cutest sunny ever!  With a length of only 4-1/2 inches and weighing in at only 0.066 Lbs, he walked away with $20 cash and a $15 gift certificate to Fishin’ Factory 3 in Middletown for smallest catch of the day!

For those that weighed in but didn’t quite make minimum length, they still had a chance at winning gift certificates generously donated from Lyman Orchards of Middlefield, Jim Watson of Lyman Orchards, First & Last Tavern and Fishin’ Factory 3, both located in Middletown!

Names were pulled from a hat and winners were as follows:

James Crompton of Rockfall won a $15 Fishin’ Factory 3 Gift Certificate.

Eric Lee of Middlefield won a $15 Fishin’ Factory 3 Gift Certificate.

James Helmedach of Middlefield won a $25 Lyman Orchards Gift Certificate.

Ryan Poturnicki of Middlefield won a $25 First & Last Tavern Gift Certificate

Heather Poturnicki of Middlefield won a $25 Lyman Orchard Gift Certificate

Kyle Roberts of Middlefield won a $25 First & Last Tavern Gift Certificate

A nice time was had by all, we look forward to next year’s event!

I would suggest to parents to donate a book to the classroom or school library in their child's nameRead More to celebrate the child's birthday, or other significant event, instead of sending in cupcakes or other sweets.
