Reporter Wounded in Iraq to Speak in Middletown

Kimberly Dozier will share her experiences during the Middlesex County Community Foundation's 2012 Party With a Purpose series opener on April 30.

Former CBS News reporter Kimberly Dozier will be a guest of the Middlesex County Community Foundation's Conversations That Matter: Party With a Purpose series on Monday, April 30.

The event, entitled "Through The Eyes of The Reporter Who Survived To Go Back," is a conversation about Dozier's experience as an Iraq war correspondent and the aftermath of an attack that left her critically wounded in May of 2006.

Dozier was with troops hit by a car bomb and turned the attack, rescue and recovery into Breathing the Fire: Fighting to Survive and Get Back to the Fight. The book is a tribute to the troops lost that day, and those that fought to rescue them – and the medical teams that helped put the survivors back together.

Dozier fought to return to her life as a journalist after being seriously injured in the Memorial Day attack in 2006. She left CBS News in 2010 as her bosses admitted they couldn’t face sending her back to reporting in war zones – much like a loving family that can’t quite let go. Returning to print journalism, she now travels wherever the story takes her, staying true to her principles, and telling the stories that give both the political and human perspectives to what our troops and veterans do for our country.
