A Halloween Festival, a Clean Up Day, a Run, and More in Durham and Middlefield This Weekend

Check out what is going on in the region this weekend.

Downtown Middletown Trick-or-Treat Festival
Friday, 12 p.m. - Downtown Trick-or-Treating will take place from noon until 5 p.m. and maps for all 100 stops are available at the Recreation Department. There will be activities on the South Green from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., including pony rides/petting zoo, inflatable bounce houses, food, face painting/tattoos, sidewalk chalk, music, a magician, games, a photo booth, a scary story, and It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown on the outdoor big screen. There will also be a pre-carved pumpkin contest, decorated scarecrow contest, best costume contest, costume parade, and pet costume parade. Registration can be done by mail, in the office, or online.

Middlesex YMCA Earth Service Corps Santangelo Circle Clean Up Day
Saturday, 9 a.m. - Join a group of volunteer teens as they, in collaboration with the Middletown Housing Authority, clean up debris, trash and construction materials associated with a residing project around Santangelo Circle. Lunch will be included. Car Show and Customer Appreciation Day for Susan G. Komen
Saturday, 10 a.m. - Donations will be accepted for Susan G. Komen. There is no cut-off year and the car show is not a judging event. There will be some giveaways. For more information, call 860-343-0000.

Scholarship 5k and 10k Road Races and 4k Fun Walk
Saturday, 10 a.m. - The scholarship 5k and 10k Road Races at MxCC will be held on Saturday. This year’s event features all new courses, chip timing, as well as sponsor tents surrounding the finish line. Join the 5k run (3.1 miles), 10k run (6.2 miles), or an invigorating 4k walk (2.485 miles) both through the MxCC campus as well as on the beautiful tree-lined roads near the CVH reservoirs behind the campus. Pregnancy and Birth Center Community Event
Sunday, 2 p.m. - You will have the chance to meet and talk with the entire Pregnancy and Birth Center team, including obstetricians, pediatricians, family medicine  physicians, anesthesiologists, lactation consultants, nurses, and other infant care experts. Learn about our special care nursery, childbirth classes and breastfeeding support groups. Car seat checks will be provided by the Middletown Police Department, flu shots and Tdap vaccines will be available, and guided tours of the Pregnancy & Birth Center will be provided (adults only). Great door prizes will also be given away. The event is free, but space is limited. Please register by calling Pamela at 860-358-6867. 

Meet Generation Dead Series Author Daniel Waters
Sunday, 4 p.m. - Daniel Waters, author of the popular young adult book series Generation Dead (Disney/Hyperion), will read from Break My Heart 1,000 Times, soon to be a major motion picture. He will also be signing copies of Generation Dead books, including Stitches, Kiss of Life, and Passing Strange. Don’t miss your chance to meet this talented author.
