VIDEO: Scout Builds Outdoor Classroom at Brewster School

Connor Bates, a Boy Scout with Troop 270 in Durham, spent the Labor Day weekend building a gazebo at the school for his Eagle Scout Project. Bates also had some help from family, friends and fellow Boy Scouts.

16-year-old Boy Scout Connor Bates is on his way to earning the rank of Eagle Scout.

The Durham teen was joined by family, friends and fellow Boy Scouts from Troop 270 over the weekend to work on his Eagle project — a new gazebo/outdoor classroom at Brewster Elementary School.

Money for the project was raised through fundraising efforts and through a donation from the Durham Fair Foundation.

The Boy Scouts plan to install benches at the gazebo and previously helped install the school's playground.

What a great project! It looks great and I am sure that many children will enjoy it. What a great example of what our young adults bring to our community. We always seem to focus on the negative. I say let's change that and focus on the good that they bring and this is one example. Great job Connor!
