Local Student Leads Fundraiser for Durham Nursing Home

Kate Annecchino and a team of volunteers made pillowcases for each resident at Twin Maples Healthcare in Durham.

 

Local students Kate Annecchino and Seamus Doyle recently delivered nearly four dozen hand sewn pillowcases to the residents of Twin Maples Healthcare in Durham.

Kate, a soon-to-be seventh grader, organized the fundraiser at Memorial Middle School after having been part of a similar effort to .

On June 14, a volunteer group made up of students, parents and faulty came together for "Sweet Dreams" Pillowcase Sewing Day. Together, the group designed and sewed pillowcases for each resident at the assisted living center.

Last week, the pillowcases were delivered to residents in hopes of brightening their day and providing "Sweet Dreams."

"It was great to see how happy it made them," said Kate. "I'm so proud of what we were able to accomplish."

As a show of gratitude, a nurse at the facility baked for the students.
