Photos: Community Gives Back to Seniors

Local businesses provided a generous amount of food for last Friday's Senior Holiday Luncheon at the Durham Activity Center

The saying goes "'tis better to give than to receive."

But on Friday, Dec. 9, the full spirit of the holiday season was on display as nearly 100 seniors enjoyed a buffet of food donated by local restaurants and businesses during the Senior Holiday Luncheon at the Durham Activity Center.

"They were so, so willing to do this. It's unbelievable," said Senior Board member Henry Coe of the donations.

Durham's 60+ club also donated $145 to the town's Giving Tree, according to Social Services director Amanda Astarita.

The event, co-sponsored by the Durham Senior Board and Durham Recreation Committee, included a visit from Santa, music and games.

Organizers would like to thank the following:

  • Carmine’s Restaurant
  • Cozy Corner Restaurant
  • Durham Market
  • Emily Newton

I would suggest to parents to donate a book to the classroom or school library in their child's nameRead More to celebrate the child's birthday, or other significant event, instead of sending in cupcakes or other sweets.
