Technology Amongst Tragedy

Technology is powerful in happy times and tragic ones.

Technology is powerful in happy times and tragic ones.

I was sitting in lunch when I first discovered that something had gone wrong in Connecticut. My good friend pulled out his smartphone and noted through a breaking CNN news story was reporting that State Troopers were responding to something in Newtown, CT, 60 miles away.

Later that day, I logged onto Facebook and Twitter. That’s how I found out about the shooting. Then, I was able to go onto major news apps and learn about it: all with technology. The information about this event spread extremely quickly through technology, giving citizens the information they needed. President Obama released his thoughts in a press conference, which is also available to view on Youtube(the view count is currently over 1 million). Loved ones were able to reach each other through texting, calling, and other forms of electronic communication. Parents wondering how to break the news to their kids can go online and find a wealth of advice.

My heartfelt thoughts go out to the Newtown community.

I would suggest to parents to donate a book to the classroom or school library in their child's nameRead More to celebrate the child's birthday, or other significant event, instead of sending in cupcakes or other sweets.
