BETTER CHOICE 2011 First selectman candidate Steve Hollander challenges Iino and Romero

BETTER CHOICE 2011 First selectman candidate Steve Hollander asks Republican First Selectman candidate William Romero to state his positions on the critical issues that face the people of Killingworth

Better Choice 2011 First Selectman candidate Steve Hollander today challenged Incumbent Catherine Iino and GOP hopeful William Romero to come forward and speak frankly on their positions on five of the most talked about issues heard in the Better Choice 2011 door to door campaign. Hollander is asking Mr. Romero to answer the following questions:

"Mr. Romero, do you agree that the $1.5 million tax increase could have been avoided?  A simple yes or no, please.  We already know Mrs. Iino approved it but she can change her position now, if she would like.

Mr. Romero, do you approve of the 3% raise given to town hall employees in this economy, yes or no?  We already know Mrs. Iino does, because she enthusiastically voted for her own raise at the Town meeting.

Mr. Romero, do you approve of the program in place which allows employees to take, in some instances, $15,000 in a Medical Premium Buyout, yes or no?  We already know Mrs. Iino’s position because she took almost $15,000 on top of her $60,000 salary immediately after taking office.  She can recant this now if she so chooses.

Mr. Romero, do you approve of the new $2.5 million Town Hall project proceeding or should it be put on hold until the economy improves, yes or no?  We already know Mrs. Iino’s position as she just approved the Architectural fee of $125,000.  That isn't a misprint- it's one hundred and twenty five thousand dollars.

Finally, Mr. Romero, do you approve of the proposal for Killingworth to join the CHATHAM HEALTH DISTRICT which will cost Killingworth taxpayers $100,000 every year and take away most of our town authority and local land use controls, yes or no?  We already know Mrs. Iino’s position because she is the champion of this proposal.

Mr. Romero, from our door to door campaign, we have learned what the critical issues are that concern the people of Killingworth, and It’s time for you to finally explain to the people of Killingworth where you stand on these issues.  The candidates of the Better Choice 2011 team have "laid their cards on the table" and stated their positions on the issues, and from her own voting record, First Selectman Iino has, as well.  Now, it's your turn."
