Joel D’Angelo for RSD 17 Board of Education
I would like to introduce myself as a candidate for the RSD 17 Board of Education. My name is Joel D'Angelo, and although I am a newcomer to campaigning, I am not a newcomer to education.
I would like to introduce myself as a candidate for the RSD 17 Board of Education. My name is Joel D’Angelo, and although I am a newcomer to campaigning, I am not a newcomer to education. I hold a Ph. D. in Biology from Wesleyan University and I am an administrator and biology teacher at Hopkins School in New Haven, where I serve as a Grade Dean. I was formerly chair of the Hopkins Science Department. I currently serve on Killingworth's Inland Wetlands and Watercourse Commission.
My education and chosen career give me a clear understanding of the educational needs of a school system, and my experience as a teacher and an administrator will make me a valuable member of the Board of Education. I will work to make sure that we are giving our students the tools they need to succeed in the job market, in a democratic society, and in a world that faces unprecedented challenges.
I have lived in Killingworth with my wife and daughter for a little more than three years, and so I also have the perspective of a citizen and a taxpayer. I love and cherish the rural character of our town, and I know we have to protect it from uncontrolled development.

As a member of the Board of Education, I will work to find ways to check the growth of our school budget and for RSD 17 to operate more efficiently and economically. Killingworth deserves a school system that gives all its students a lifelong love of learning and the capacity to make the most of their individual talents and abilities. I believe we should expect much more of our school system, and I will fight to raise our standards. I hope you will give me your vote on November 8th.
