The Durham and Middlefield high school chose Staff Sergeant Robert Chadd during the game against Morgan High School this past weekend.

The below posting is a press release from Coach John Bozzi.

Coginchaug High School's football team selected Staff Sergeant Robert Chadd to be the team’s honorary captain for the game against Morgan High School on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Sergeant Chadd graduated from Coginchaug in 1992. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1991 after his junior year of high school.

In early 2003 Sergeant Chadd was deployed to Kuwait in preparation for the invasion of Iraq where he was assigned to the 773rd Transportation Company as a vehicle recovery operator. When combat commenced the 773rd conducted missions for 28 consecutive days hauling fuel and supplies to the front lines for the 3rd infantry division and its counter parts.

After the fall of Baghdad, Sergeant Chadd was reassigned to the 325th Transportation Company. In the next 9 months the 325th ran over 350 resupply missions to American combat bases in and around central Iraq. Sergeant Chadd and the 325th returned home in December 2003 and they were awarded the Army Meritorious Unit citation for “Meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service, heroic deeds and valorous actions."

In April of 2009 Sergeant Chadd was again deployed to Iraq where he served as a mission commander in a gun trucks platoon that escorted Iraqi contractors working for the United States in and around Baghdad. In January of 2010 Sergeant Chadd was reassigned to assist with base closings and equipment deployment back to Kuwait in preparation for the end of the U.S. combat mission in Iraq.

Sergeant Chadd returned home from Iraq in June 2010 and retired in 2013 after serving for 21 years.

Sergeant Chadd lives in Durham with his wife Heather and their children Jennifer, 11, and Jessica, 8.

To Staff Sergeant Robert Chadd and his family, Coginchaug says, “Thank you."
