Handley Leads Coginchaug into State Tournament

The Shoreline Conference's Pitcher of the Year will take the mound for the No. 2 seeded Blue Devils at home today against Academy of the Holy Family.

Fresh off their Shoreline Conference softball championship, the Coginchaug Blue Devils begin their quest of a state softball title today when they host the Academy of the Holy Family in the second round of the Class S state tournament.

First pitch is at 4 p.m. at Coginchaug High School.

Coginchaug student Jeremy Brown recently sat down with Blue Devils pitcher Mari Handley to ask her a few questions:

Brown: What got you started playing softball?

Handley: I started by playing t-ball, when I was five.

Brown: What has been your favorite thing about playing for Coginchaug?

Handley: – The team dynamic that we have is great.

Brown: What's your favorite class/subject?

Handley: Biology, I’m a huge nerd.

Brown: What are your plans after high school?

Handley: I will be playing softball for UMASS at Lowell along with studying physical therapy.

Brown: If you had to say one thing to future Coginchaug softball players, what would you say?

Handley: Stay together as a team and learn to work together.

I would suggest to parents to donate a book to the classroom or school library in their child's nameRead More to celebrate the child's birthday, or other significant event, instead of sending in cupcakes or other sweets.
