Teaching Trio at Lyman Elementary Ready for Full-Day Kindergarten

Patch caught up Kerry Chernovitz, Kristen Blake and Sharon Berndt on Wednesday to get their thoughts on the first day of school and the addition of full-day kindergarten in Region 13.

You probably know them better as Mrs. Chernovitz, Mrs. Blake and Mrs. Berndt.

While all three have taught kindergarten, the trio has the distinction of being the first to teach full-day kindergarten at Lyman Elementary School.

"I have waited for this day all summer. We're always thinking about it. We just hope that there aren't children who are nervous or afraid. We just want them to be happy. If they're happy, they'll learn."

Kristen Blake

"We'll really get to know the kids and get to know their interests, their needs. Being able to delve into a literacy lesson, or a math lesson, and not always have to have your eye on the clock. It's so nice because they still need the social piece, they still need to be able to play and interact in kindergarten."

Kerry Chernovitz

"I'm very, very excited and happy to have the kids for the full day. In the half-day program you have a head full of wonderful ideas and ways to expand, but never enough time. Now we have time to let those ideas blossom."
