Standout Athletes from Durham Sign with Schools

Xavier High School student-athletes Ryan Murphy and Andrew Gonzalez recently signed letters of intent.

 

On Wednesday, Feb. 1, Ryan Murphy and Andrew Gonzalez, both of Durham, signed letters of intent to play at Southern Connecticut State University (Div. II) and Babson College (MA, Div. III), respectively, this fall.

Ryan Murphy - 6’ 3” 210 lbs., Tight End/Strong Safety, 3 year starter, 2011 Stats: 27 tackles, 18 solo, 2 for a loss, 2 QB sacks, 1forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 5 PBUs, 1 Interception; Offense - 31 receptions for 514 yards with 5 TDs, 8 carries for 32 yards with 1 TD. GPA: 2.92, All-SCC, C.H.S.C.A., All-CT Team, Walter Camp All-CT Team All-Area Middletown Press. Ryan is also senior class president.

Andrew Gonzalez - As a senior Andrew earned the Defensive Most Valuable Player Award and was named to the Southern Connecticut Conference All-Quinnipiac Team. Another top performer in the senior class, Andrew has also earned the prestigious Brother Celestine Award. A consistent Honor Roll student, he is secretary of the Spanish Honor Society and member of the National and Math Honor Societies. Andrew is also a member of Xavier's concert band and pep band.
