Search Underway for New Korn Principal

District 13 recently received 67 applications for the position, which opened up when Laurie Sinder announced her retirement.

A search is underway for a new principal at Korn Elementary School.

Korn principal Laurie Sinder announced earlier this school year that she planned to retire at the end of January.

Sinder came to the district in 2005, after serving as a principal in Simsbury.

At Wednesday's Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Susan Viccaro said the district received 67 applications for the job, 46 of which met all of the district's requirements.

"I will tell you that we are looking for folks that have experience," Viccaro told the board. "We have been fortunate enough in the last two principal searches... this time we have a combination of assistant principals and also sitting principals who have applied, so I think we have a nice balance."

A principal search committee will begin interviewing candidates for the position in early January. A final round of interviews by the board is scheduled for January 23.

The process is likely also to include focus groups with input from students, parents and staff.

Viccaro said the district will have to hire an interim principal when Sinder leaves.
