District 13 Considering Full-Day Kindergarten [Poll]

Regional School District 13 Superintendent Susan Viccaro says full-day kindergarten is necessary to keep up with new state standards.

 

Regional School District 13 officials are "exploring" the possibility of offering full-day kindergarten to students.

At Wednesday night's Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Susan Viccaro said the change is motivated by the new set of standards known as , which schools are required by the state to implement by the 2014-2015 school year.

"We want to be prepared for that," Viccaro said. "We do not believe that we will be able to implement the curricular requirements in half-day [kindergarten]."

Viccaro said an overwhelming number parents responding to a recent District 13 survey favored full-day kindergarten.
