Memorial Middle School's Nurse is the Best!

The Association of School Nurses of Connecticut names Joanne Nytch School Nurse of the Year!

Memorial Middle School's nurse, Joanne Nytch, is Connecticut's School Nurse of the Year!

Although this is likely to come as no big surprise to the school’s staff and students, not to mention their grateful parents who are always quick to say how much they appreciate what good care Nytch takes of their children, Connecticut’s Association of School Nurses made it official on May 9, which is celebrated in Connecticut as School Nurse’s Day.

“The purpose of this award is to publicly recognize one exceptional school nurse each year, who functions as an expert school nurse,” states the Association of School Nurses. “This candidate would be a role model for school nurses, demonstrating outstanding professionalism, initiative, and leadership skills.”

The association receives nominees for this annual award from schools all over the state. To be eligible, the candidates must be licensed RNs who have worked full-time in a school setting for at least five years.

Nytch is the second school nurse from Middlefield to win the honor, Regional School District 13 School Superintendent Susan Viccaro noted when she made the announcement at last night’s Board of Education meeting.

Nytch was honored by the Connecticut Association of School Nurses yesterday but Board of Education members said they intend to do something special to recognize Nytch in Middlefield too. Stay tuned for more information about that.
