On Wednesday, students from Haddam Killingworth Middle School pledged to be smoke free during Kick Butts Day 2012. The annual event raises awareness of the dangers of tobacco.
A news crew from WTNH News 8 visited the school Wednesday morning (see video) to talk with students at the school. The event was organized by the HKMS Students Against Destructive Decisions Club (SADD) which has members from grades 5-8.
Students signed a pledge poster titled "I Pledge to be Smoke Free" during the lunch waves. In addition, students created displays of items found in tobacco smoke, made posters about the dangers of smoking as well as flip charts with pictures of lung damage and other medical conditions related to smoking.
Stickers with smoking prevention messages on them and erasers saying "Tobacco Stinks" were handed out as well.
