John McCormack Memorial Scholarship Offered At HKHS

$1,000 Award In Memory of a Great Friend of Education; Deadline: March 31st!

James Daniels, veteran chemistry teacher and former teacher of the year at Haddam-Killingworth High School, has announced that he is now accepting applications for the John McCormack Memorial Scholarship. The application deadline is March 31, 2011.

John McCormack, a Vietnam War veteran and 13 year high school biology teacher and coach in Bloomfield, Connecticut, was for many years the Connecticut Education Association’s representative advisor for HK. He was a man of great integrity and was widely known for his courtesy to all. The annual scholarship award of $1,000 was established by his friends and colleagues  in Region 17 through their own donations to honor his memory. John died of cancer in 2004, but his influence lives on. As he was a lifelong advocate for continued education, it is most appropriate that a scholarship bears his name.
