HK Graduates 180 Students in the Class of 2012

Haddam-Killingworth graduates were encouraged to "dance in the rain" and "just be happy" despite the looming thunderstorms that forced graduation ceremonies indoors Friday night.

 

Clouds and may have forced Haddam-Killingworth High School’s class of 2012 indoors, but it didn’t dampen the spirits of 180 students that graduated on Friday night.

Friends and family packed into the high school’s auditorium to celebrate this year’s graduates. Those without a ticket (each student had received four tickets in case of inclement weather), watched the ceremonies live from across the hall on a small monitor.

Graduation speakers spoke of happiness, past reputations, the future and learning to dance in the rain. Superintendent Howard Thiery opened his speech with a that was met with laughter from the audience and graduates.

Speakers were, in order of appearance:

  • Alina Kostek, Class President
  • Megan Tischbein, Salutatorian
  • Howard Thiery, Superintendent
  • Emma Soneson, Valedictorian
  • Charlie Macunas, Principal

Karen Perry, Chairman of the RSD Board of Education presented the graduates with their diplomas.
