VIDEO: Guilford Basketball Player Makes CT Sports History

Alex Beckett, of Guilford High School, is the first student athlete with an intellectual disability to play in a high school game in the state of Connecticut. Earlier this week, he scored two points at a GHS JV basketball game.

 

Alex Beckett, of Guliford High School, scored two points at a Guilford High School JV Basketball game earlier this week. He is the first student athlete with an intellectual disability to play in a high school game in the state of Connecticut.

Alex has been a Special Olympics Unified Sports athlete in Guilford for four years.

The Unified Sports program is offered in schools through SOCT's partnership with the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC). The Special Olympics Connecticut Unified Sports® Program brings athletes with and without intellectual disabilities together to play sports, gain physical fitness, develop friendships and demonstrate appreciation and respect for each other both on and off the playing field.
