Geography Lesson: How Sweet It Is!

Students at John Lyman School have collected postcards from all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

The third and fourth graders in Mrs. Hadlock's class at John Lyman School started a project to collect postcards from all 50 states and the District of Columbia back when school started in September. On February 1, the 50th state card arrived! The last state received was Arkansas and the first was Pennsylvania. Altogether the class received 149 postcards. The state of California had the largest total with 9 cards!

To celebrate Ella DiBernardo, Sophie Cassarino and Anna Dubowchik baked mini-cupcakes for each state and frosted them in colors according to geographical region. Each cupcake had a small toothpick flag with the state’s abbreviation on it. All the children placed the cakes on a large USA map and enjoyed celebrating together!
