Esposito Among Nominees for New Haven Register Athlete of the Year

The Register Annual MVP banquet was held last week at Amarante’s Sea Cliff in New Haven where Bria Holmes of New Haven (Hillhouse H.S.) was named Female Athlete of the Year.

Lauren Esposito is a winner. Coginchaug's three-sport star wrapped up a remarkable high school career by leading the Blue Devils' , the basketball team to and the against St. Bernard in her senior year.

The New Haven Register recently named Hillhouse High School's Bria Holmes the state's Female Athlete of the Year, but we think otherwise. Here's what one Register reader had to say about Esposito:

"Lauren Esposito was a 3 sport star at Coginchaug! Lead Shoreline Conference in scoring in soccer helping lead the CRHS team to it's first SLC title. She starred in basketball, scoring 993 total career points and helped lead the team to it's first State Basketball Championship. She was the high scorer in State Championship game at Mohegan with 18 pts. She lead her softball team to both SLC and State Championships. Lead the team in batting avg (.537), hits (51), runs scored (49), and stolen bases (23). She went 7-1 pitching with a team low ERA (0.53). She tossed a 2 hit shutout in the State Championship game and was named the game's MVP.
She's been called the most prolific athlete in Coginchaug HS history, by the AD and her coaches.
Best overall athlete out there, male or female!"

I would suggest to parents to donate a book to the classroom or school library in their child's nameRead More to celebrate the child's birthday, or other significant event, instead of sending in cupcakes or other sweets.
