Eleventh Annual MxCC Golf Classic Slated for May 28

Middlesex Community College Foundation, Inc. is hosting its 11th Annual MxCC Golf Classic on Tuesday, May 28, at Lyman Orchards Golf Club in Middlefield.

Proceeds raised from the tournament will help the Foundation fund student scholarships and academic programs that foster student success at MxCC.  Last year’s event raised more than $35,000 in total support.

The tournament includes lunch and dinner, on-course contests with awards, driving range privileges, and 18 holes of fabulous golf on the Gary Player course at Lyman Orchards, described as “the apple of Connecticut’s eye” and ranked as one of the top ten public golf venues in the state.

This year’s tournament chairman is George Eames IV, MxCC Foundation Chair and President of Lee Manufacturing of Wallingford.  Lee Manufacturing is this year’s Summa Cum Laude Sponsor, an honor afforded to the event’s top donor.  This year’s dinner sponsor is Follett’s Bookstore at MxCC.  The Magna Cum Laude sponsor is Securitas Security.  Additional sponsors include Insalco Corporation; S.J. Services; Teamsters Local Union No. 1150; Carlson & Dumeer, LLC; Pratt & Whitney; Connecticut Rental Center, and Middlesex Hospital.  Also, Richard M. Muniz; Stanley Traver; Dean Steven Minkler, and Dean Adrienne Maslin.

To date, 130 golfers have committed to the tournament, with openings still available for about 14 additional players.  Participants have a chance at winning many exciting prizes donated by many local businesses in the tournament’s annual prize drawing.

All players will also be outfitted with Foundation golf umbrellas, courtesy of this year’s golf committee.  The golf committee is pleased to announce that this year’s grand prize drawing will include a Junior Suite at Lifestyle Holidays Vacation Resort in the Dominican Republic for one week; if the winner is able to book the trip at a certain time of the year, the prize would also include helicopter transport from the airport to the resort.

The Foundation is making a special effort to solicit donors to sponsor student-veterans from the College’s Veterans Club to participate in this year’s tournament.  The cost is $160 per golfer.  At this time there are eight veteran golfers who will be able to play due to the generosity of our donors in this outreach program. Tee Sponsors for $150 are still available for businesses and groups to support the tournament.

To register for the event as an individual golfer or as a foursome, visit www.mxccfoundation.org. Please contact Greg Kline (860-343-6914) for additional information.  Registration deadline is May 22 unless capacity of 144 golfers is reached sooner.
